Covid 19 Policies

Current COVID-19 Guidelines
for the BugONayGeShig School, 2022-2023 School Year

The Bugonaygeshig School is excited to offer in person learning for students this year, but we will continue to take measures to keep our staff, students, and families safe during the pandemic. Our Administration and School Board will continue to monitor regional case rates, and will make any necessary adjustments between in person, hybrid, and distance learning models. Our guidelines are based on the latest recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), as well as any resolutions passed by LLBO.

Guiding Principles:

- COVID-19 is spread most easily through extended close contact between individuals.
- Vaccines are widely available to all individuals ages 12 and older, and are highly effective against slowing the spread and for keeping people safe.
- Wearing a mask correctly is another effective strategy for keeping individuals and communities safe.
- When practical, physical distancing is another effective method for maintaining safety.

Key Strategies:

- Universal masking is a requirement for all staff, students, and visitors at the Bugonaygeshig School.
- Staff and eligible students are being encouraged to receive the vaccine if they haven't already.
- Physical distancing will be practiced as much as is reasonable.
- Larger gatherings such as Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Pow Wows will be held outdoors.
- Families can choose to have their students do distance learning.

Parents and Families play a key strategy in keeping our community safe! Please keep children home if they are symptomatic!

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 in children include fever or chills, cough, nasal congestion or runny nose, new loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, diarrhea or vomiting, stomachache, tiredness, headache, and muscle or body aches.

Quarantine Guidelines

Staff and students will be expected to quarantine when they have been exposed to the virus. They will be expected to isolate when they have been infected with the virus, even if they don’t have symptoms.

Staff and students will quarantine if they have been in close contact (within 6 feet of someone for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who has COVID-19, unless they have been fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.

What to do:

- Stay home for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
- Watch for fever (100.4°F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
- If possible, stay away from people you live with, especially people who are at higher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19.

After Quarantine:

- Watch for symptoms until 14 days after exposure.
- If you have symptoms, immediately self-isolate and contact your local public health authority or healthcare provider.
